Dec 01,2023 | Ducks N Crafts Pte Ltd.

As the festive season approaches, let’s add a personal touch while infusing your home with Christmas vibes. Making quilling art as a Christmas Tree decoration is an easy and fun arts and crafts activity for both you and your kids. In this quilling art tutorial, we will show you how to make easy small Christmas tree quilling art decorations!

What is quilling art?

If you are wondering what quilling art is, it is a form of arts and crafts activity that involves rolling, shaping, and gluing strips of paper to create beautiful designs. A perfect holiday activity that you and your kids can bond to!

Materials

There are only 4 materials needed in making quilling art, namely:

  • Quilling Paper/Any Paper
  • Glue
  • Needle and Thread

In this guide, we used Avenir Quilling Paper, but any piece of paper can be used in quilling.

Now that you have your materials to make a small Christmas Tree quilling art decoration, let’s get started!

Step 1: Rolling Paper Strips

Starting with the body of the tree, grab a strip of paper and roll it just like in the image below, and secure its place with glue at the end.

Step 2: Adding Base

Add a base across the quilled paper by cutting two small strips of paper and attaching them with glue. Make sure that the papers are intersecting just like in the image below, on the right.

Step 3: Creating More Pieces

Do steps 1 to 2, three or more times, depending on how tall you want your tree decoration to look like. Each part of the tree must be in a different size.

Step 4: Creating the Stand

The stand of the tree will be created by quilling a strip of a darker-coloured paper. Grab a strip of paper and quill it to make a pointy shape just like in the image below. Use glue to keep it in place.

Attaching the stand to the tree

Use a small rectangular piece of paper and glue it at the tip of the stand. Add glue on the other side of the paper and then attach it to the tree.

Step 5: Creating the top

Just like the stand, grab a paper strip (preferably a lighter color) to make the top of the Christmas tree decoration. Quill it to make a pointy form and glue it to the top of the tree.

Adding the handle

To make the handle to hang it on your Christmas tree, use a needle to add a thread on its body just like in the image below, and finish it off with a knot

This quilling art activity is not only for making beautiful Christmas tree decorations but also fosters creativity and fine motor skills. For children, engaging in such artistic activities can be incredibly beneficial, aiding in their cognitive development and enhancing hand-eye coordination.

With this simple quilling art activity, kids can join in setting up the Christmas vibes, giving a fantastic opportunity to bond with the family. So, gather your supplies, unleash your creativity, and let the spirit of the season inspire your quilling journey this Christmas!
